“At 60kph, the loudest noise in this new Nissan Leaf EV comes from your heartbeat”   Firstly let me apologise to ad executive David Ogilvie for plagiarising his 1958 press campaign for Rolls Royce, (click on this link to read more about Ogilvie and RR ad.) but it’s too good

Nissan 370Z – Why Should You Buy?

Hi, Bob Aldons, The Car Guy coming to you from the nearest race track to me, Lakeside International Raceway at Kurwongbah, near Redcliffe. Now, I’m no Craig Lowndes or Danny Ricciardo, but I’ve driven cars at speed over the years. Ferarri 458, Falcon XR8, Chrysler 300 SRT8, and Nissan 370Z

Nissan Navara ST-X 4×4 Dual Cab – Why Should You Buy

What’s in a face? If you’re in the market for a largish Dual Cab 4WD and you’re considering a Mercedes-Benz X Class, here’s a few good reasons why you should look at the birth-mother, the Nissan Navara ST-X 4×4 Auto Dual Cab.   Hi, Bob Aldons, The Car Guy with

5 Year Warranty – The Stop Outs are Dropping Out

5 Year Warranty – The Stop Outs are Dropping Out

On June 1st Ford Australia announced the introduction of a 5 Year Warranty and now it’s Holden’s turn. Good on you both. It’s time that consumers had this better warranty. The Car Business demands it. If my memory is clear that now only leaves, Toyota, Subaru, Volkswagen, Nissan and Mazda as the last major players in the Australian car business with a 3-year warranty. These stop outs need to have a long hard look at themselves – the new car warranty has moved on – 5-year warranty is the norm with Kia still the front-runner with 7 years.

Nissan X-Trail TL – Why Should You Buy?

Hello, Bob Aldons, The Car Guy, reporting in on the Nissan X-Trail 4WD Auto Diesel SUV. For your interest, my motoring reviews are my opinion of the vehicle I’m testing. The manufacturer, in this case, Nissan Australia, don’t tell me what to write or ask for a ‘nice’ review. Nor

Nissan Qashqai

Nissan Qashqai – Why Should You Buy?

Nissan Qashqai is a highly specified small SUV – great as a second vehicle for the family with 2.4 kids, an excellent school transport, and weekend sports vehicle What is it: The motoring world has changed. Once where Toyota Corolla, Mazda 2, Holden Astra, Mitsubishi Lancer and the like were selling

Infiniti QX50 – Premium SUV – In Their Own Words

Hello. Bob Aldons, The Car Guy, writing to you on Queensland Election Day 2017. Infiniti has struggled somewhat to get a foothold in the Australian luxury car market. Why? Their quality is world class, they have great designers and engineers, but still the volumes probably required have escaped them.  I

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my new website thecarguy.com.au!

I know that there’s a lot of websites that offer car reviews, car road tests, opinions on various cars and the like. What makes this site different is that I’m not going to bore you with technical information about the various cars that I review.

I’ve been in the car business for over 39 years. I’ve read the motoring magazines cover to cover. I’ve read the online reviews until my eyes were square. Everywhere that I go, I find motoring journalists talking about car speeds – 0 – 100 km per hour, standing ¼ times, the inclination of this and that at 150klm per hour on a 12.5% gradient curve, in rainy weather – and other stuff that bores me no end.

thecarguy.com.au is taking a different path on the journey to helping you purchase a new car. I’ll do my best to advise you on what I consider to be the most important information when it comes to that major decision to purchase a car. Interior room, features of the car, fuel economy, safety, service prices, resale and lots more. I’ll tell you what I like about a particular car and as importantly, what I don’t like, to find at least to be less than I think a car should have. .

And I’ll ask for your opinion. Take some pics of what you’re driving and tell me and our audience what you particularly like or dislike about your car. Because besides prospective new car buyers, there’s a lot of people who’ll read your comments as used car buyers.

So, jump on board, strap yourself in and let’s start out on the journey with The Car Guy.
