Belgium Grand Prix

It was the wettest of races for the 2021 Belgium Grand Prix at the Spa Circuit this weekend. After 2 laps behind the pace car, Max Verstappen was awarded the race, George Russell for Williams in 2nd and Lewis Hamilton on the third step.

Fortunately for the Mercedes AMG team, only half points were allocated for the Belgium Grand Prix which leaves Hamilton leading the championship albeit with only a 3 point gap to Max Verstappen. Aussie Daniel Ricciardo finished in 4th position with teammate Lando Norris in 14th place

  • With heavy rain falling continuously, the start of the race was incrementally delayed. After two formation laps behind the Safety Car on Wets, the red flag was brought out and start procedure suspended.
  • The three-hour window for the race was temporarily stopped at 17:00pm local time, before a further delay of over an hour.
  • The race officially resumed at 18:17pm, with cars exiting the pit lane and the clock starting to tick down with one hour remaining.
  • The cars completed two racing laps behind the Safety Car, signalling the start of the race, before it was red flagged and suspended again. This was enough for half points and a race classification to be awarded.
  • At 18:44pm, the race was called off, with Lewis classified P3 and Valtteri P12.
  • Today’s result marks the 10th podium for Lewis and 15th for the Mercedes F1 Team at the Belgian Grand Prix.
  • Lewis (202.5 points) leads the Drivers’ Championship by three points from Max Verstappen (199.5 points) with Valtteri (108 points) in P4.
  • Mercedes (310.5 points) lead Red Bull (303 points) by 7.5 points in the Constructors’ Championship.

Lewis Hamilton
Firstly, I’m really disappointed for the fans.

It’s no one’s fault, you can’t control the weather, but the fans have been incredible today, sticking with us the whole time, holding out for a potential race, keeping their energy up and creating the atmosphere. They were robbed of a race today, unfortunately. I love racing in the rain, but today was something else.

You couldn’t see the car ahead, there was aquaplaning, it was so, so tricky out there. It’s a shame because of course I wanted to race and I love this track as well. I think it would have been a great race if it hadn’t rained so hard, but unfortunately, it just didn’t stop.

Valtteri Bottas
It’s a huge shame, of course, that we couldn’t race and there were many committed fans out there, waiting for us to get started but we couldn’t.

They were still smiling throughout and in good spirits, so hats off to them. And obviously for me, with the penalty I had and the bad qualifying, being outside the top 10 on the grid meant I couldn’t fight for any points. There was a fair amount of standing water but the main thing was the visibility, particularly on the straights. It was really poor and would have been too dangerous.

Thankfully there isn’t long to wait for the next race, Zandvoort is a new track on the calendar, I have raced there before in Formula 3 back in the day, so I’m looking forward to that.

Toto Wolff
I really want to take my hat off to all the fans who were here with us over the weekend, in the wet and the cold.

And particularly during this afternoon, spending hours waiting for the race to start. It’s great to see their enthusiasm and passion, it’s just what the sport needs. We are all racers and we want to race, but today it just wasn’t possible. It would have been too dangerous to let the drivers race because of a total lack of visibility. In terms of the race result, of course, we are not happy that points have been awarded for what was a few laps behind the Safety Car but if the regulations allow that, you have to take it on the chin and move on.

Now, we are looking forward to Zandvoort, hopefully, score some big points and continue this fight for the Championship

Hello. I’m Bob Aldons, the owner and editor of The Car Guy. The Car Guy is an independently owned car review website. I’m currently testing cars for Mazda, Nissan, Kia, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Renault, Hyundai and Genesis.

Through Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport I’m also writing about the 2021 Formula 1 season.

I’m not paid by any car company for my opinion and my companies don’t receive advertising revenue to say nice things about them. I call it as I see it.

However, I also own a new car broker company – Car Business. Being able to review new cars gives me an opportunity to provide accurate information on these brands. If you’re in the market for Any New Car Cheaper, contact me at Car Business and see how I go about saving you some serious money.

Perhaps you think that you can do the job of buying a new car yourself? If you’re after any advice at all, give me a call and ask me any question that you need to be answered.

If you’re an Aussie Veteran or serving in the military, I take particular pride in taking care of you. For every car that I source and deliver, I donate part of my fee to Mates4Mates.

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my new website thecarguy.com.au!

I know that there’s a lot of websites that offer car reviews, car road tests, opinions on various cars and the like. What makes this site different is that I’m not going to bore you with technical information about the various cars that I review.

I’ve been in the car business for over 39 years. I’ve read the motoring magazines cover to cover. I’ve read the online reviews until my eyes were square. Everywhere that I go, I find motoring journalists talking about car speeds – 0 – 100 km per hour, standing ¼ times, the inclination of this and that at 150klm per hour on a 12.5% gradient curve, in rainy weather – and other stuff that bores me no end.

thecarguy.com.au is taking a different path on the journey to helping you purchase a new car. I’ll do my best to advise you on what I consider to be the most important information when it comes to that major decision to purchase a car. Interior room, features of the car, fuel economy, safety, service prices, resale and lots more. I’ll tell you what I like about a particular car and as importantly, what I don’t like, to find at least to be less than I think a car should have. .

And I’ll ask for your opinion. Take some pics of what you’re driving and tell me and our audience what you particularly like or dislike about your car. Because besides prospective new car buyers, there’s a lot of people who’ll read your comments as used car buyers.

So, jump on board, strap yourself in and let’s start out on the journey with The Car Guy.
