Sky Garage for the Rich and Famous

Melbourne apartment taking parking to the next level – Sky Garage.

Sky Garage
First, you need the cash and then you need the car. No point parking your 04 Ford Futura there
LISA ALLEN from the Australian has an interesting story on a new development in St Kilda. Sign me up Scotty! A Sky garage has become prevalent in Singapore and the USA, and now it’s coming down under.
“Forget valet parking. A new apartment block on St Kilda Road will offer residents — provided they have a spare $6 million — the chance to live with the latest German technology with the nation’s first “sky garage”.
Long a feature of Singapore’s and New York’s up-market developments the apartments in Melbourne’s Neue Grand will showcase the owner’s luxury vehicles in a glass display port adjacent to the main living area.

The 20-storey building fronting 613 St Kilda Road with 19 residential levels is designed by award-winning architecture firm Rothelowman and will feature one 350sq m apartment per level.

Plans for the sky garage are awaiting final approval.

With an average price of $6 million, each full-floor apartment will offer at least three bedrooms.

Residents will drive their vehicle into the automated parking system from the ground floor, where licence plate recognition will allow for secure entry.

Developer Growland, which is developing $2 billion worth of projects in Victoria, says construction on the purchased St Kilda Road site will start next year.

Once exiting the vehicle, residents will scan a pass to their own lift, and while protecting their privacy the lift takes the resident to their apartment without revealing the dwelling’s floor number.

The high-speed automated parking system will then automatically send the resident’s vehicle skywards and park it in a private double-space display port in the apartment.

For convenience, a basement parking space will offer a place for residents’ “everyday” car.

Residents will also be greeted by a concierge in the regal entrance, and once at their level will access their apartments via fingerprint recognition software.

Inside the residences, blinds and lights will be controlled through hi-tech home automation.

Rothelowman will work with buyers to ensure each apartment is tailored to suit their unique requirements.

The prized penthouse apartment will enjoy exclusive access to a private rooftop and garden offering city and bay views, with the opportunity to combine the top two floors for a palatial double-storey residence.

Shane Rothe, founding principal of Rothelowman, said Neue Grand was aimed at discerning downsizers looking for new residences that retained the opulence and scale of their former homes.

“The ability to showcase premium cars is a rare opportunity in Australia. These apartments will also tap into a new middle-aged professional market made up of people who are downsizing earlier for the convenience of lifestyle.

“Easy access to the gym, storage within the residences for golf clubs, and the selectivity of only one apartment per floor will appeal to their mindset alongside the chance to exhibit their high-end vehicles.

Growland CEO Ronald Chan says the company is proud to be the first developer to bring this grand garage technology to Australia and Melbourne where there is significant demand from buyers at the prestige end of the market.

Growland chairman and founder Bruce Chan says this project is elite in every way; from the exclusive full-floor apartments to the oversized layout and of course the sky garage. “It is truly the only project in Australia that will offer all the benefits of a luxury home with the convenience and amenity of a penthouse apartment.”

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my new website thecarguy.com.au!

I know that there’s a lot of websites that offer car reviews, car road tests, opinions on various cars and the like. What makes this site different is that I’m not going to bore you with technical information about the various cars that I review.

I’ve been in the car business for over 39 years. I’ve read the motoring magazines cover to cover. I’ve read the online reviews until my eyes were square. Everywhere that I go, I find motoring journalists talking about car speeds – 0 – 100 km per hour, standing ¼ times, the inclination of this and that at 150klm per hour on a 12.5% gradient curve, in rainy weather – and other stuff that bores me no end.

thecarguy.com.au is taking a different path on the journey to helping you purchase a new car. I’ll do my best to advise you on what I consider to be the most important information when it comes to that major decision to purchase a car. Interior room, features of the car, fuel economy, safety, service prices, resale and lots more. I’ll tell you what I like about a particular car and as importantly, what I don’t like, to find at least to be less than I think a car should have. .

And I’ll ask for your opinion. Take some pics of what you’re driving and tell me and our audience what you particularly like or dislike about your car. Because besides prospective new car buyers, there’s a lot of people who’ll read your comments as used car buyers.

So, jump on board, strap yourself in and let’s start out on the journey with The Car Guy.
