10 November 2020: Mitsubishi Motors today announced pricing and specifications of the new-look and better-handling Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross.
While a very competant car inside and on the road, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross was, at least from my viewpoint, a bit on the forgetable side from the rear. Seems that the designers agreed with me and have deleted the mid window rear spoiler from the 2021 version. And thats a good thing.
The Eclipse Cross goes on sale from December 1st and potential buyers can only hope that there is sufficient stock to meet demand
From Mitusbishi Motors comes the following information
- Exterior: A new look delivers more refined on-road presence: bolder dynamic shield styling, LED headlamps1 and new rear design with single window.
- Interior:
- A new 8” touchscreen smartphone-link display audio with Apple CarPlay®/ Android Auto®, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming as standard. Based on consumer feedback and to improve the driver experience, the touchscreen is relocated closer to the driver, whilst touchpad control is discontinued.
- Designed for year-round performance, heated front and rear seats and steering wheel1 now offer increased cabin comfort on cold mornings or trips to the snow.
- Performance: Product Engineers have delivered a more responsive drive experience with more linear steering to the sporty Eclipse nameplate.
- Size: Increased length (140mm) increases both luggage space and rear legroom, and takes the Eclipse Cross into a new class.
- Safety: The Eclipse Cross comes with a 5-star ANCAP rating, making this the perfect fit for both private passengers and fleet buyers.
- Start of sales for the Australian market is 1 December. Australia and New Zealand are the first countries to launch the more sophisticated vehicle, with Japan and North American markets to follow.
With the latest iteration of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, which goes on sale with the campaign “Here now, for whatever next”, product designers and engineers have focused on improving both driver comfort and on-road handling.
“We listened to customers, and we are pleased to bring to market an elegant enhancement to the driving experience by bringing comfort, technology and driving dynamics for their next adventure,” said Minoru Uehara, Chief Product Specialist of MMC.
“The new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross builds on its core attributes of being a stylish, contemporary and fun to drive vehicle,” said Tony Dorrington, MMAL’s product strategist responsible for the local specification of the new Eclipse Cross. “It’s packed with technology to ensure our customers enjoy their daily city commute, while also being capable enough to take them on their next weekend adventure. The new Aspire model hits the sweet spot of offering even more technology at a great price point.”
Under the design concept of “Daring Grace”, designers have extended the front and rear overhangs to express the elegant and dynamic proportions of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. The front end adopts an evolved Dynamic Shield design concept, including new headlamps and LED daytime running lamps. The restyled rear creates a more sleek and elegant appearance, while also expressing the strength and toughness of an SUV. Combined with new 18-inch alloy wheels, the Eclipse Cross’ on-road presence is even more sophisticated.
The redesign has increased luggage room to 405-litres2, a significant and usable increase from the previous model, despite an increase of only 140 millimetres in overall vehicle length. Overall aerodynamic performance remains stellar through the reshaping of the front and rear of the vehicle.
Boosted road performance is made possible by an electronically controlled 4WD4 system in combination with Mitsubishi’s well-established Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. S-AWC offers integrated control of Active Stability Control (ASC), Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Active Yaw Control (AYC) to regulate braking force and torque. The integrated control of these systems with finely tuned rear suspension by adopting the rigidly connected rear suspension crossmember produces vehicle behaviour true to the driver’s intent, and delivers ample manoeuvrability.
For drivers’ peace of mind, the new Eclipse Cross employs driver assistance technologies5 such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Mitigation system (FCM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Warning (BSW) with Lane Change Assist (LCA) and Automatic High Beam (AHB) in response to the acceleration, deceleration or stopping of the vehicles or objects ahead. It comes with a 5-star ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) rating, offering additional peace of mind for both private passengers and fleet buyers.
The new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross comes with an improved infotainment system that helps drivers operate safely on the road. A new 8-inch screen is now mounted in a position closer to the driver for improved touchscreen operability and visibility. MMC also teams up with what3words to deploy the industry’s first built-in offline navigation which is integrated in the TomTom® satellite navigation system6. Apple CarPlay and Android AutoTM 7compatibility comes standard on all models. A full-colour Head-Up Display (HUD)8 presents dashboard information, alerts and navigation signals9 that helps drivers acquire information safely and quickly.
Engineers also specially designed Mitsubishi Power Sound System to deliver a lush, fluid sound quality. The system comprises a high-powered 510 watt tuned amp and eight speakers that are arranged to fit to the shape of the Eclipse Cross.
The improved infotainment and sound system, the bigger display with embedded satellite navigation9, 1.5-litre turbo engine and S-AWC make the Eclipse Cross a car that will inspire its owners to explore and achieve more.

Hello. I’m Bob Aldons, the owner and editor of The Car Guy.
The Car Guy is an independently owned car review website. I’m currently testing cars for Mazda, Nissan, Kia, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Renault, Subaru, and Hyundai. Through Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport I’m also writing about the 2020 Formula 1 season
I’m not paid by any car company for my opinion and my companies don’t receive advertising revenue to say nice things about them. I call it as I see it.
However, I also own a new car brokerage company – Car Business. Being able to review new cars gives me an opportunity to provide accurate information on these brands. If you’re in the market for Any New Car Cheaper, contact me at Car Business and see how I go about saving you some serious money.
Perhaps you think that you can do the job of buying a new car yourself? If you’re after any advice at all, give me a call and ask me any question that you need to be answered.
If you’re an Aussie Veteran, I take particular pride in taking care of you. For every car that I source and deliver, I donate part of my fee to Mates4Mates or Brisbane Legacy.
