Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV

When they dropped the mid-screen rear spoiler from the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, they took away some of the objections potential buyers had. That was one of my first issues when the Eclipse Cross launched in Australia a number of years ago.

More of a Sportback style, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross slotted in between the ASX and Outlander – just the right size for someone who didn’t need 7 seats or a small urban car.

The next generation Eclipse Cross is high in style, economical, and noticeable in the traffic. A good-looking vehicle. And then there’s the PHEV version. PHEV – Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle while a little bit more expensive than the petrol engine, future-proofs the journey from ICE (Internal combustion engine) to a full EV (Electric Vehicle). And with Australia committing to Net Zero in 2050, ICE vehicles don’t seem too long for new car showrooms. (Circa 2028?)

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV. Affordable Economy

What does Mitsubishi Australia have to say?

Here now, for wherever next

Combining sophisticated aesthetics and sporty performance with SUV practicality, the new Eclipse Cross is a stylish and dynamic choice for drivers on the move.

Competitors

Too many to mention individually in the SUV segment but as far as Hybrid is concerned, consider Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, Mazda CX-30 and others. Mitsubishi is the only manufacturer to offer a PHEV in the segment at the moment

Price

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross ES PHEV starts at $49,990 drive away and ends at the range-topping Exceed PHEV for about $59,990. Comparatively, the Eclipse Cross ES with a petrol engine is priced at $31,490 for a 2WD and $41,490 for a 2WD Exceed, so you’re paying nearly $20,000 for the PHEV set-up, plus you’re getting the safety of all-wheel drive as well

Interior

Ok, so it’s not BMW or Lexus quality in the Eclipse Cross Exceed, but nor are you paying over $100,000 either. It’s comfortable, spacious and everyone has enough room to stretch out on a long trip

Economical long-distance driving

On The Road

Ok, so you want a vehicle that won’t break the bank at purchase time and that will be economical to drive. A PHEV should be on your shortlist. With a range of around 50 kilometres in EV mode, you just have to hook up that long lead to your household PowerPoint and you’ll get a full charge overnight. On the other hand, if you’re planning on a long-distance journey, after the EV charge is used, you’re back into the petrol engine. But, as you drive on petrol, the battery is charging and will automatically switch to EV mode when you have enough charge

Travelling around 800 kilometres? The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV will arguably get you there on one tank full of battery and unleaded fuel. No range anxiety with this car that’s for sure.

And you won’t feel washed out at the end. This car is very comfortable, with plenty of room for the family, lots of storage and green to boot

Which Dealer?

If I’m looking for a Mitsubishi dealer to speak to about a new car, I only choose dealers who have a minimum four star rating with Google. I’d search for Mitsubishi Dealers and then Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast. From there you’ll see a list offered. Choose as many as you’d like to discuss your needs.

Hello. I’m Bob Aldons, the owner and editor of The Car Guy. The Car Guy is an independently owned car review website. I’m currently reviewing cars for Mazda, Nissan, Kia, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Renault, Haval, Hyundai, and Genesis.

Through Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport I’m also writing about the 2021 Formula 1 season.

I’m not paid by any car company for my opinion and my companies don’t receive advertising revenue to say nice things about them. I call it as I see it.

However, I also own a new car broker company – Car Business. Being able to review new cars gives me an opportunity to provide accurate information on these brands. If you’re in the market for Any New Car Cheaper, contact me at Car Business and see how I go about saving you some serious money.

Perhaps you think that you can do the job of buying a new car yourself? If you’re after any advice at all, give me a call and ask me any question that you need to be answered.

If you’re an Aussie Veteran or serving in the military, I take particular pride in taking care of you. For every car that I source and deliver, I donate part of my fee to Mates4Mates.

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my new website thecarguy.com.au!

I know that there’s a lot of websites that offer car reviews, car road tests, opinions on various cars and the like. What makes this site different is that I’m not going to bore you with technical information about the various cars that I review.

I’ve been in the car business for over 39 years. I’ve read the motoring magazines cover to cover. I’ve read the online reviews until my eyes were square. Everywhere that I go, I find motoring journalists talking about car speeds – 0 – 100 km per hour, standing ¼ times, the inclination of this and that at 150klm per hour on a 12.5% gradient curve, in rainy weather – and other stuff that bores me no end.

thecarguy.com.au is taking a different path on the journey to helping you purchase a new car. I’ll do my best to advise you on what I consider to be the most important information when it comes to that major decision to purchase a car. Interior room, features of the car, fuel economy, safety, service prices, resale and lots more. I’ll tell you what I like about a particular car and as importantly, what I don’t like, to find at least to be less than I think a car should have. .

And I’ll ask for your opinion. Take some pics of what you’re driving and tell me and our audience what you particularly like or dislike about your car. Because besides prospective new car buyers, there’s a lot of people who’ll read your comments as used car buyers.

So, jump on board, strap yourself in and let’s start out on the journey with The Car Guy.
