Volkswagen touareg Adventure

12th June 2020

  • Builds on standard spec of 190TDI Premium
  • Selection of two unique two-tone Savona leather interiors
  • Four-wheel steering as standard
  • Additional advanced Offroad settings: Gravel & Sand
  • Additional engine underbody protection

Volkswagen Australia has announced the return in August of its Touareg Adventure model with a new range of standard features and unique optional packages.

The most robust Touareg available, the 150 Adventure special editions build on the Touareg 190TDI Premium variant in blending luxury comfort with off-road capability.

There is a choice of two unique interiors, both in supple Savona leather: Atacama Beige; or the darker Florence Brown. Both are matched to open-pore fine grain ash wood trim in the dashboard and doors.

Set amid these two distinct cabin flavours is the expected host of high definition displays, ergonomic dials and instruments. As with the standard Touareg, the Volkswagen Touareg Adventure Active Info Display is also available as part of the optional Innovision package.

On the road, the Adventure is immediately recognizable. Along with distinct ‘Adventure’ badging, it rides on 19-inch ‘Esperence’ alloys and is set off by roof bars. Underneath, the Adventure is bolstered by additional under-body protection and a larger than standard 90-litre fuel tank.

Further visual distinction can be added with Sechura Beige Metallic paint in combination with the beige interior choice as is Pure White (with beige interior). Florence Brown’s exterior colour choices are Silicone Grey and Deep Black Pearl Effect.

The Touareg is Volkswagen’s technology flagship. The Adventure includes as standard Area View 360-degree camera. Providing a detailed image of obstacles right around the car via the infotainment screen, this feature which proved popular in the standard Touareg range and enables the Adventure to negotiate the closely proximate obstacles and narrow paths encountered off the main road.

The Volkswagen Touareg Adventure also comes equipped with additional driving modes to the standard ‘Offroad Auto’ and ‘Expert’ modes, for when the road runs out: Off-road Gravel and Off-road Sand driving modes.

The parameters of these individual driving mode programs are as follows:

150 Adventure special editions build on the Touareg 190TDI Premium variant in blending luxury comfort with off-road capability will be available in August.

Off-road Gravel
The vehicle systems are adjusted so that grip can be improved by more targeted power transmission on field roads or gravel tracks.  Hill Descent Control is switched on.

Off-road Sand
The vehicle systems are adjusted so that grip can be improved by more targeted power transmission on sand.  Hill Descent Control is switched off.

To support these programs and the ensuring the driver can indeed have an adventure, the standard tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) monitors the tyre pressure of the four wheels using pressure sensors in the valve stems of the tyres.  The system displays the tyre pressure on the infotainment screen under the “Vehicle Status” menu and will warn the driver in the event of a pressure loss.

The TPMS is particularly useful for offroad driving, as the tyre pressures can be lowered (for example when driving on sand) and the driver can ensure that all tyres are at the exact same pressure.  The driver can then use the air pump included in the boot to return the tyre pressures to the target pressure displayed on the infotainment screen for on-road driving.

As for options, Volkswagen Touareg Adventure customers are spoilt for choice and are able to customize their vehicle to suit their preferred type of activity. Adventure Package One includes a tow bar, luggage compartment tray and front and rear mudflaps; while Adventure Package Two includes a tow bar, luggage compartment tray, side steps and all-weather rubber floor mats. In addition, customers can also add roof bar accessories including Volkswagen’s roof box range, a bike/surfboard/kayak carrier and a ski/snowboard carrier.

The Touareg Adventure is available to order now through Volkswagen Australia’s national dealer network, and is limited to 150 examples.

Based off the 190TDI Premium model, the Adventure special model has the following additional specification:

Hi Bob, what are your thoughts on the reduced ball weight when 5 occupants in the car? Is there anything that can be done to alleviate this?

Hi Campbell. I’m sorry but I don’t have enough knowledge of that matter to comment accurately. What I would suggest is that you visit a towing specialist and seek their advice.
I am aware that specialists such as ARB can upgrade the vehicle’s suspension to increase the towing capacity, but I’m not sure whether that would change the towball download parameters.
      Cheers

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my new website thecarguy.com.au!

I know that there’s a lot of websites that offer car reviews, car road tests, opinions on various cars and the like. What makes this site different is that I’m not going to bore you with technical information about the various cars that I review.

I’ve been in the car business for over 39 years. I’ve read the motoring magazines cover to cover. I’ve read the online reviews until my eyes were square. Everywhere that I go, I find motoring journalists talking about car speeds – 0 – 100 km per hour, standing ¼ times, the inclination of this and that at 150klm per hour on a 12.5% gradient curve, in rainy weather – and other stuff that bores me no end.

thecarguy.com.au is taking a different path on the journey to helping you purchase a new car. I’ll do my best to advise you on what I consider to be the most important information when it comes to that major decision to purchase a car. Interior room, features of the car, fuel economy, safety, service prices, resale and lots more. I’ll tell you what I like about a particular car and as importantly, what I don’t like, to find at least to be less than I think a car should have. .

And I’ll ask for your opinion. Take some pics of what you’re driving and tell me and our audience what you particularly like or dislike about your car. Because besides prospective new car buyers, there’s a lot of people who’ll read your comments as used car buyers.

So, jump on board, strap yourself in and let’s start out on the journey with The Car Guy.
