ZB Commodore VXR – In Their Own Words

Holden Commodore VXR

General Motors Holden is taking the biggest gamble of their time with the introduction of the Opel Commodore VXR due for launch in early 2018. Whilst maintaining the Commodore name, Holden is asking the historical buying public to overlook that this car is manufactured in Europe for Australia and other right-hand drive countries.

Holden spokesperson Richard Ferlazzo spruiks that the new Commodore has a 3.6 Litre V6 engine producing 235kw and is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The telling factor won’t be how it looks, but more importantly how it will perform on unforgiving Australian roads. The current and previous Commodore models have been improved after decades of history on our roads and I’m thinking that it will take some time for the car to find its feet. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to take one for an extended test drive and providing feedback to you early next year.

Looks stylish, but will Australian buyers embrace the new Holden Commodore VXR due in 2018?

Whilst I’ve never been a Holden fan, (after 22 years as a Ford dealer at Torque Ford) nonetheless, I’m hoping that the Holden and Ford owners will give both companies an opportunity. The important thing is that the product quality is up to the competition.

Holden has revealed the ZB Commodore VXR to the Australian public for the first time this morning at Motorclassica at Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building.

Set to go on sale in early 2018, the ZB Commodore VXR boasts a 3.6-litre V6 engine paired with a 9-speed transmission and adaptive all-wheel-drive capable of producing 235kW and 381Nm torque in addition to a long list of state-of-the-art technology features. It also promises the distinct ride and handling Commodore has become famous for following extensive development work from Holden’s engineering team utilizing almost 40 years of Commodore learnings.

But the show isn’t just about the stunning fifth generation ZB Commodore. Joining the newbie are the previous four generations of Commodore – VB, VN, VT and VE – as well as Holden designed concept car show-stoppers, Hurricane, Torana GTR-X, EFIJY and a prototype of Holden’s first car, the 48-215.

Holden’s significant 28 car presence at this year’s Motorclassica celebrates 100 years since the company first began producing vehicle body shells, following its beginnings as an Adelaide based saddlery business.

“It’s a huge achievement for Holden to have been building vehicle body shells for 100 years and to be able to celebrate by displaying such a diverse and rare collection of heritage cars is something special,” said GM Australia Design Director, Richard Ferlazzo.

“It was a pleasure to reveal the ZB Commodore VXR to the Australian public for the first time and it certainly looks the part on the stand next to the previous generations of Commodore.

The new ZB Commodore VXR is on display at Motorclassica which is open to the public from 9am-6pm Friday, 13 October, 9am-9pm Saturday, 14 October and 9am-5pm Sunday, 15 October at Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building.

The next-generation Commodore VXR will be on sale alongside the rest of the sedan range, along with Sportwagon and Tourer body styles, in early 2018.”

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my new website thecarguy.com.au!

I know that there’s a lot of websites that offer car reviews, car road tests, opinions on various cars and the like. What makes this site different is that I’m not going to bore you with technical information about the various cars that I review.

I’ve been in the car business for over 39 years. I’ve read the motoring magazines cover to cover. I’ve read the online reviews until my eyes were square. Everywhere that I go, I find motoring journalists talking about car speeds – 0 – 100 km per hour, standing ¼ times, the inclination of this and that at 150klm per hour on a 12.5% gradient curve, in rainy weather – and other stuff that bores me no end.

thecarguy.com.au is taking a different path on the journey to helping you purchase a new car. I’ll do my best to advise you on what I consider to be the most important information when it comes to that major decision to purchase a car. Interior room, features of the car, fuel economy, safety, service prices, resale and lots more. I’ll tell you what I like about a particular car and as importantly, what I don’t like, to find at least to be less than I think a car should have. .

And I’ll ask for your opinion. Take some pics of what you’re driving and tell me and our audience what you particularly like or dislike about your car. Because besides prospective new car buyers, there’s a lot of people who’ll read your comments as used car buyers.

So, jump on board, strap yourself in and let’s start out on the journey with The Car Guy.
