Back in 200? Audi of America produced a television commercial which at the time gained plaudits from the industry, ad agencies and the population at large. There’s no doubt that Superbowl ads are arguably the most expensive to make and certainly amongst the most expensive to air during the game – upwards of 3 million dollars for a 30-second spot.
Just after the ad aired, critics came out of the woodwork – here’s a sample from GRIST
It’s ironic then that this Audi commercial titled The Green Police is coming back to bite Audi on the bum. Legendary rock band Cheap Trick and Audi of America came together to rock the big game on Sunday, February 7th, 2010. The ad featured the Audi A3 TDi clean diesel.
Fast forward to 2014 and the ‘dieselgate’ scandal seems to have put Audi of America to the sword.
But it was light-hearted and humorous. It just didn’t tell the truth! Cheap Trick? I reckon that Audi of America think now that it wasn’t cheap – it was bloody expensive.
