2020 Mitsubishi ASX Review – Exceed Model

When the first series of Mitsubishi ASX  launched in Australia a few years ago, it was considered to be an ugly duckling as far as the market was concerned. Fast forward to 2019 and 2020 – the Mitsubishi ASX is now the market leader in its category and all other manufacturers are playing catch up as quickly as they can. Here’s my Mitsubishi ASX review.

WHAT IS IT?

Worldwide, the Mitsubishi ASX is considered a subcompact crossover SUV, but here in Australia, it’s just another SUV to consider. The original version was a lot smaller than is offered today and in fact, the ASX has grown up considerably.

HOW MUCH?

The 2020 Mitsubishi ASX range starts off with a manual ES at $24,990 drive away (in Queensland) and tops out to what I’m driving, the Mitsubishi ASX Exceed 2WD at $35,740. Even at this price, it’s an exceptionally good value for money car

COMPETITORS?

That’s an interesting question. According to industry specialist RJ Pound, it compares to Citroen C3 Air Cross, Fiat 500X, Ford Eco Sport, Haval H2, Holden Trax, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Venue and Kona, Jeep Renegade, Kia Seltos, Mazda Cx-3, MG ZS, Nissan Juke, Renault Captur, Skoda Karoq, Ssangyong Tivoli, Subaru XV, Suzuki S-Cross and Vitara, as well as Toyota CH-R.

Mitsubishi ASX

The most popular small SUV in Australia, Mitsubishi ASX has 'grown' enough to compete against larger vehicles

AT A GLANCE

  • 2.4 Litre MIVEC Engine
  • 18" 2-Tone Alloy Wheels
  • Panoramic Sunrook
  • Rockford Fosgate Premium Sound System
  • Heated Front Seats
  • Leather Appointed Seats
  • 7-Year Warranty

SAFETY FEATURES

ASX scores a 5-star ANCAP rating but thats based on 2014 specifications and criteria. If tested today, it would probably get 4 stars

ON THE INSIDE

There's plenty of room for the rear seat passengers (even adults) and plenty of cargo room in the back. I really like the driver's seat adjustability (is that a word?) and how all the major controls fall to hand. One thing that I don't like at all is the Tom-Tom Navigation. Cheapens what would otherwise be a 10/10 vehicle.

WANT ONE?

I don't have a lot of space to give you my full recommendations, but if you Google Mitsubishi Dealer Queensland, the dealer with the best Google Star Rating is Bartons Mitsubishi at Wynnum. If you don't want to drive that far, give me a call on 0418 748 498. I can help you to get the best outcome without any stress

ON THE ROAD

I've been driving a number of small and medium SUV's lately and the Mitsubishi ASX is wonderfully comparable to all other brands, even the more expensive European ones.

WARRANTY & SERVICE

Mitsubishi was the second manufacturer (behind Toyota) to introduce a longer warranty and capped-price service program.  Sadly, since introduction, the plan has stayed pretty much the same. While other volume brands have upped the ante to unlimited kilometres, Mitsubishi has stayed with a limited kilometre program and only provide capped-price service pricing for 3 years Service costs are fairly inexpensive, $199 per service for the first three years. Mitsubishi Scheduled Maintenance is due every 15,000km or 12 months – whichever occurs first.  And in my opinion, you should ALWAYS take your Mitsubishi back to a dealer. Only Mitsubishi dealers have the equipment to diagnose any specific concerns and update special software. The Federal Government is pushing for all independent workshops to have access to specialist diagnostic stools, but realistically, that access will be confined to the top-selling brands. It may be hackneyed but it's very true. No-one knows your Mitsubishi better than brand specialists

Market-leading small SUV, Mitsubishi ASX ups the ante again
